Hi all,

That brings us to the incredibly widespread wrong terminology for the
D-subminiature connectors. The commonly called "DB9" is really a "DE9".

The "D" means that it is a D connector.

The second letter specifies the shell size, normally a 9 pin connector is an E
size. But you can also have 15 pins in an E shell, as in the VGA display
connectors, i.e. a DE15. The B size shell normally has 25 pins and the A
normally has 15 pins.

Don't rely on the description used by the local electronics shop, they're
probably wrong too :-( Look at a genuine manufacturer's catalogue!

Any other misconceptions? How about colinear/collinear spelling? (Check it in
a dictionary)

73, David.
