Walking around? I will confess to actually driving around London (and
many other large towns around Europe) at times using the sun's position
for guidance ;-)
I used to do a considerable amount of driving in strange (to me) towns
and found it invaluable to know in generally which direction of the
compass I wanted to go plus the rough angle of the sun (or moon or
stars). It is very easy to become disorientated in town centres and
loose your way, to end up going back out the same way you came in. I
found it a useful check to be able to glance up at the sky as a double
check to make sure I was going in roughly the right direction.
