We have/had two types of portable mantle lantern here in the UK. One
runs on parafin, makes quite a lot of noise, is very industrial looking
and needs a regular pumping to keep the pressure up. The other one works
on a much lower pressure, make no noise and is quite decorative in the
home.
I have been looking for one of the latter type for some years for those
odd times when we do loose power.
