This reminds me about a display i saw at the Adelaide show about 1998,
where a vaccuum cleaners sales person was demonstrating a particular
vaccuun cleaner.
The item used was a clear plastic cilinder about a metre long and 500mm
in diameter fitted with a piston, this was attached to a shaft and U
shaped bracket attached to this was a platform on each side were a number
of house bricks, when the piston was at rest the load was at floor level.
The sales person the connected a vaccuum cleaner to this display and
claimed that this particular vaccuum cleaner was very powerfull, when he
turned on the cleaner the piston rose up lifting the balanced brick load.
I said to the sales person that it was not the cleaner lifting the load,
it was the air presure underneath the piston and any bright person wpoulod
know this( atmospheric presure at 14 pounds per squaqre inch ) he was not
impresed.
