Noted re submarines, pressures etc. and lab experiments at school. So
wonder did you ever carry out the 'Cartesian diver' experiment?
This consists of floating a weighted small pill bottle or similar in a
larger bottle. The small bottle content is such that it only just floats.
Then a rubber diaphragm, or piece of rubber is stretched across the top
of the big bottle sealing it off. Pressure is then applied to the
diaphragm middle with a finger.
The effect is that the little bottle sinks, either part way down or to
the bottom in direct sympathy with the pressure applied.
Any conclusions on that one?
