Hello Ian
The rotor blades of a helicopter are simular to wings and provide lift,
they are refered to as rotory wing craft.
Gimbles near the blade allow the rotary wing to be tilted thus allowing
directional movement, the tail rotor stops counter rotation of the body.
I have a picture of the support helicopter for the rouletes taken during
last clipsal 500 race, the helicopter was over a metre above the ground
when i photographed it using 400 ASA film and a shutter speed of 1000th of
a second, the rotor blades are perfectly still and also the tail rotor.
The main rotor shows a perfect air foil
