HI, Dick said the lift is due to a difference in pressure, he mentioned the
difference at low and high altitude. I am no physicist ,but I don't agree.
I think the difference in pressure between the bottom and top of the object
is the factor causing the lift, this is due to the weight of the fluid that
has been displaced.I imagine a small helium ballon would still rise to the
top of a sealed air tank, or an air filled float would rise to the top of
an otherwise completely full and sealed water tank.An expandable helium
ballon will swell at high altitude due to the internal pressure and hence
tend to maintain the lifting force.
Take care, kindest regards. DE
