Hello Warren et al
I asked about the specific reason why a helium filled balloon or 'airship'
rises, and then included, a sealed container in water. This follows my
pondering this observation some months ago. 'Why is it so'?
Two replies, one from Henry PA7KK who perhaps got side-tracked by the
helium in the balloon. OK, the helium is required in a balloon due to it's
low relative density, but also, and a big also, to maintain the envelope
shape. Bombardment by the helium molecules on the walls of the balloon
prevent it collapsing. Take the case of a rigid vessel ( as was the
Hindenberg, incidently) and evacuate it. This eliminates gas mass from the
problem. And, the 'balloon' still rises!
Warren uses more 'slight of hand' but then deviates into the question of
what is a trolley! As I said previously, the word trolley HAS mutated.
I have just been shopping with my wife at the supermarket, and we used a
shopping trolley! No grooved wheels, but that's 'mutation' for you.
Hey! We are talking around the main point of the question. There has to be
a reason for the balloon/vessel/airship etc to rise in a medium. Clue again!
I believe, after thinking about it, that I have the solution to the problem.
I may be wrong, but I can't think of a reason for being wrong.

BTW, why does Bo Grace give Bayonne such a hard time?
