Hi Hugh,
This term refers to the overhead wire structure carrrying the
electricity supply for the loco(s) on an electrified railway system. It
has often been applied to the Wire on the tramway system within cities and
ths lines called Interurbans in the U.S. Tram wires are also referred to
the trolley wire, as also to the Trolley Bus system in many cities
worldwide.
In many places this would not be evident as this system will use a
"third rail" pickup system. Doubtless, other more informative &
descriptive bulletins will follow( or have been posted) Model railway
layouts use similar tpyes, the major difference is the 2-rail system, now
almost universal, but with a variety of control/power systems which
hopefully will spawn another absorbing topic. Who needs the internet?
Well, sometimes, the two go hand in hand, but let's NOT go down the Telnet
type track again please, it got VERY polarised, and a turnoff.
