They have been available in the UK now for about 20 years.

I converted over to them about 15 years ago - I remember when my daughter
was in the infants school and her homework was to find out what wattage
certain household appliances were. We listed 20 watts as the normal for
light bulbs. The teacher marked it wrong !!! as she hadn't come across
such devices.

They are now much more common ( and cheaper ).

As they are only now just being introduced into the USA, we can conclude
that the USA lags behind the UK by a good 20 years. :-)))
