Hello John, EI3DIB, and all other readers...
Not being an expert on windows networking, I may be open to easy criticism
but here goes - scheme 1 or 2 may expedite matters simply..
1. Temporarily cable the HDD from the PC with the old data into the new PC
Then use your favoured file management scheme to transfer files quickly.
Windows assumed, and long filenemes will be no problem.
(Assuming the task is a once-off and the older PC becomes redundant.)
2. Make up a cable using the very recent G8MNY info for two DB-25 male plugs
to cross couple the parallel LPT ports and transfer data with ye old DOS
Interlink / Intersvr and proceed with CAUTION - do not use this if there
is any chance the "system" involved uses any long filenames. I expect the
data files may fit the old 8.3 format and copied data files will be okay.
The 11-way cable works fine and once "linked" you just use your preferred
file management program to control transfers - you need not swat up on an
unfamiliar specialized program with Interlink. Norton or Windows (Total)
Commander are ideal but W/Explorer can just about get it right.
Somehow I think you know more about this than yer 'umble servant . . .
Sure I have 4 obsolete network cards here but they are ISA cards with huge
BNC sockets sticking out their rears - and it is a long way to Tipperary!
Best wishes for a great Xmas to all unfortunate enough to read this far...

Yes the ZS6CFC idea of popping a Thumb / Flash Drive into their
USB ports is more elegant - even a 128 MB unit would soon do it.
Nab a passing friend who has one! JY - Read Sten's mail later.

See - you put our heads together - and you get a rock garden. Cheers!
