I am writing a dos program that needs to know what version of windows it
is running under, so that it can change how it runs a batch file depending
on the windows version.

I know that the command VER in a dos window will tell me what I need to
know. The following is what I know so far;

win 98 gives

Windows 98 [Version 4.10.1998]

win 98SE gives

Windows 98 [Version 4.10.2222]

Win XP Pro gives

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Each line is preceeded with a CR and LF character.

But what about Win 95 ?

Win XP home ?

Win 2k home?

Win 2k pro?

Win ME ?

Can anyone fill in these blanks?

Any help will be much appreciated.
