For about the last 18 months the HDD on my desktop pc has been producing a
terrible whining or grinding type noise for about the first 30 - 60 secs
on a cold boot..

It now appears to be getting worse as I hear a 'wheezing' noise also every
few seconds' OK so the HDD is dieing I thought so I buy a new 300GB one
and
oddly the same situation with this brand new drive so why I am wondering ?

Before anyone asks yes it is definatly coming from the HDD, I have put my
ear to it even! Plus yes everything works 100% So what on earth could
cause this, is the motherboard and / or the IDE cables ?? ...very strange.
The fan has been replaced and is runing at about 2500rpm with a P4 HT
3.06ghz cpu

Maybe the power supply straning in some way (350w) ??

Any information much appreciated apart from the obvious, thanks!

If anyone wants I can email a mp3 of the whining and wheezing !!
