I've just reviewed some 40 pdf documents but out by the IARU regarding their
General Conference at Davos - 11 -16th Sept 2005.

That's 6mb worth and there's more but time but for the moment 40 documents
is enough for me to read.

Unsurprisingly 90% of the content is waffle and procedural notes and other
gobbledegook which makes finding the meat a bit hard ;-)

After searching some 6mb of documents I found the following "meat":

* IARU is to lobby at the next World Radio Conference for -
  a)an exclusive allocation of 100KHz at 5Mhz'ish
  b)an extension of 10Mhz to cover 10.100 - 10.250Mhz.

Lets hope they have more influence than they had for the last 65 years
with our 7Mhz band which still remains useless to this very day despite
their trumpeted success.

The RSGB have said that they will *not* be lobbying OFCOM for a 5Mhz
allocation - but the IARU will.

* There have been challenges in some countries to the existing national
radio society's membership from other groups claiming that the existing
national radio society doesn't represent that country's amateurs views
  well enough ;-)

I wonder if the RSGB's have been challenged ? [It should be]

Of course this particular report was written by G3BJ and neatly omits
which national society's have been challenged and only mentions those
  that have been successful.

* IARU finances appear to be healthy.

Since it's the members of each society that through their subs pay for
their national society to be an IARU member I wonder if the RSGB
memebership subs will decrease following this announcement ?

So there we have it, less than 2kb out of 6mb of any real interest.

Surely it's time to scrap the IARU - it's national governements that make
decisions of their own free will - the IARU is just a spectator that lacks
teeth.
