In itselfs a nice idea, but an average modern PC is generally used for other
things than packet radio, as that is were normally the older generation PC's
are being kept usefull.
If you take an example to Jerry n9lya's recent experience with a full blown
lightning strike, older exuipment is easily collected. And, why not stack
your older usable computers for this purpose, instead of directing them to a
landfill.
Then to think, there are places in the world where they have not even ever
seen a P3-450, one that a lot of people in "the West" not even would want to
have anymore (be given).
Nope, I certainly would not be in favour of banning 300 bps or 1200 bps HF
packet.

That's indeed easy right for Pactor 2, the old Pactor could be done with an
old PK232MBX (hm, still haven't got one).

My Packet system? Well, the main Radio BBS, now, is a P166 running JNOS,
using a HZP OptoSCC-card with external modems. But, I'm thinking of
replacing that PC with a C333/C400.
My other packet systems (ethernet, no SCC-card) range from P133 to P200,
while I got a P2-266 running to get enough hands-on experience with Linux.
My other PC's, running Windoooze, range from a P4-1500 to a P166 that is
still used for several applications.
