There are obviously some strong reactions against the SM proposal
for discussing a 300 kHz link segment in 437 MHz IARU reg 1 meeting.
Let me first pinpoint at the fact, that we suggest a DISCUSSION of this
point. We do not promptly say, there there should be 300 kHz in the
437-438 band.
Let me, secondary pinpoint at some facts.
1) In Scandinavia, we have 432-438 MHz. Not 430-440 as in most other
reg. 1 countries. So, we have 6 MHz, whereas You have 10. The question
arizes, wether it is fair, that half the band should be exclusively used
by a quite small group of amateurs. The width of this question becomes
greater, as a portion of the band is getting more and more un-usable for each
day that passes (approx 433.0 - 434.8) by the growing number of LPD.
2) In Italy, a this portion of the sat- band is unusable due to secondary
user growth in this country. If there had been regular activity by amateurs
(also on some fixed frequencies) noone would have investegated in
commercial equipment for this band. The method of "reservating spece" for
future amateur radio communications has therby been proven worthless.
The old statement "USe it or Lose it" is the thruth. And by "Use" one must
mean "Use NOW", not i 5 or 10 years time...
3) There is not only need for packet links. There also exists a real need for
voice links (linking repeaters together). This activity has no band segment in
the IARU band-plan at all today. I beg You to think a bit further: Where is
the best way to put a voice link between two 70 cm repeaters, if you should use
the same band for the link ? Of course near 440. To us scandinavians this IS
as near 438 as possible (and, in fact, these frequencies ar already used for
that purpouse here - the actual repeater owners claims not without
justification, that these frequencies not are used anyhow, and that the band
plan is not the law).
As I told: We would like to discuss the matter...
A little discussion here on packet would also be nice ! What does our
Italian brother and sisters say ?
