Dave M0DCM asked.....
}
} Hi Guys,
}
} I knoe this is a long shot, but can anyone help?
} I've written a small program in VB.Net and are trying desperately to
} display the MP3 tag info from a Shoutcast server onto the program.
}
} At the moment, I've used the Windows Media Player component to play the
} stream off the server, but I've searched everywhere, well I think I've
} searched everywhere on the internet, for help to display the tags.
} Displaying tags from a normal MP3/WMA file off the hard drive is not a
} problem.
}
} If anyone can help, I'd be very, very... very grateful.
}

You didn't say which tags you want to display.

Is it ID3v1, or ID3v2, or APEv2 ?

I've just got my head around ID3v1.
This tag is placed at the END of the file and occupies 128 bytes beginning
with the string  TAG.
It consists of 30 bytes each for the title, artist, album, and a comment,
4 bytes for the year, and a byte for the genre of the song from a
predetermined list of originally 80 values.
v1.1 comments trimmed by 2 bytes and used it to store track number.

In 1998, ID3v2 started to be used.
This is located at the START of the file, to aid streaming media and is of
variable length and contain a number of frames each which contain a piece
of metadata.
e.g. TIT2 frame contains the title, WOAR contains the URL of the artists
website. TIT2 frame later changed to something else ;-((

Things get more complicated as you move on through ID3v2.1, ID3v2.2,
ID3v2.3 and the latest ID3v2.4 which most seem to have not implicated.

If you really are a glutton for punishment then you could try the
 www.id3.org website. You may even find the answer to your original
question in the FAQ section or may need to delve deeper.

Have fun,
