Anyone still using or even owning an old Magnum Four 70 MHz transverter
made about 30 years ago by Stephens James UK?
I have resurected mine which I used to use in the "old days" being driven
with a 28 MHz signal from an FT101 B which also used to supply all the re
quired HT supplies and grid bias and LT for the Rx converter which is a
Microwave Modules unit fixed to the back panel of the transverter.
I am intending running it again soon when I have a 4 M yagi erected but
now have an FT101Z which was not designed to power up a valved
transverter.
The main "difficulty" I think is that the 101Z uses 6146 B's in the pA
and thus HT is 900 Volts which is a bit too high I think for the QQVO6 40
A PA in the 4 metre transverter.
I have been looking at the PSU circuit in the FT101Z and there seems to b
e some spare secondary HT winding tappings that could produce a lower HT
and am wondering therefore whether anyone has any information about this
rather "rare" transverter as a request for information on the 4 metre
website and Forum has not revealed anyone who either uses one or even
remembers much about it?
