Hello Dick, you asked:

Sorry to hear that your Opthalmologist only managed to do a temporary
repair on your eyeballs...but maybe its not quite his speciality !
Then again maybe I was luckier at 70 years of age, to have both eyes
fixed up by our local "Eye & Laser Clinic" and that was over two years
ago.
What they did was flush the affected lenses clean out of the eyeball and
replace them with a soft silicon lenses which were specially cast to suit
my lookers. ( by tests prior to the op.)
This was done by making a small incision in the corner of each eyeball,
and working through this with a little jet of some water- like juice,
flushed out the liquid lens which had turned milky (cataract).
Then by folding the new lens double, popped it into the now vacant slot
and hey presto...I can see beautifully ! Mind you, they did say that I
was one of those who attained maximum benefit from the op.
The entire procedure was carried out under a local...had I been able to
see, I could have watched the whole 20 minute show. The second eye was
done after a two week break since one was required to keep the eye covered
for a full day after the new lens was fitted.
At no time did I suffer ANY discomfort during or after the replacements.
Dick, I can now read a newspaper without any specs or magnifyer of any
sort. I drive as anyone who is not visually impaired can. Prior to
the op, I had only 5% vision in the left eye and 85% in the right eye.
You can imagine my disgust at my first view of the bloke looking back at
me from the bathroom mirror via 100% eyes ! Cheeze !
Being a "few" years my senior, might be a consideration, but what have you
got to loose if you can't see now anyway ? Best of luck if you do go for
it Dick.
