I've only just read this or I'd have replied sooner.

Ah yes, another case of "it was free so I thought I'd try it without
thinking first" syndrome.

And it didn't quite restore it as you expected.

Now you should only install something free and find that it gubs up your
machine once. Regularly installing freebies and then having to deal with
the consequences should teach you something about Windows that isn't easily
forgotten.

Before you install anything on a Windows machine you should get into the
habit of creating a restore point so you can recover stuff that the
uninstaller doesn't fix. We all know that Windows and its registry is very
fragile so use of the restore point feature should become automatic as it
let's you get back to where you started from. Especially as many
uninstallers don't do a decent job.

OK, lecture over! Now for your problems and some possible fixes.

In a desperate attempt to make OE more secure, Microsoft disabled the
ability to follow links and run attachments. If the program has reinstalled
OE then many of the settings may be set back to the defaults. There is a
option to turn that feature back on. Unfortunately, I don't use OE so I'm
not sure how to do it. The following link maybe better anyway, it's from
Microsoft and it shows how to reinstall IE or OE. Most importantly, it
explains about patches you may need to restore IE or OE to the latest
revision. There's a strong possibility your current version of OE may be
lacking several important updates.

Personally, I'd go with the latter. Sure, you'll have to put some effort in
to learning a new programme but I think it's worth it. Whilst Thunderbird
(and Firefox) are more secure than IE/OE, you still have to keep them
updated with regular patches.

As for removing OE, the simplest answer is you can't.
