Well I made a level shifter for my FT 817 and it works brilliantly. The design
says it works with the VX-7. The Yaesu CT-62 cable from Yaesu works with
the VX-7 and VX-1 so I assumed this design that works with a VX-7 should
work with a VX-1. But it doesn't.
I borrowed a genuine Yaesu cable and its software to try and that of course
works fine with my VX-1. I've used the Yaesu software on Win95/98SE and XPsp2
without any issues.
So the genuine software works fine on XPsp2. My homebrew hardware works fine
on several packages with my FT-817. But the design that should work with a VX-1
doesnt.
I'd check the levels are the same as the Yaesu cable. There's a degree of
leaway on the levels but if yours is not in the same ballpark as the genuine
cable then I think you'll have problems.
Oops... for CT-62 read CT-29!
I used ADMS-1d software which predates XP and Win2k but works fine. The latest
versions of this software add support for more radios. AFAIK, there aren't
any XP changes to the package.
It's all a bit of a minefield really! The CT-29 cable is advertised for
VX-2 use aswell... I'll measure the levels it produces tonight and post them
and you can see if they match your cable.
