Don't want to be negative , but combining bits from 2 HDs: Forget it !

I don't know prices in South Africa , but here HDs with less than 40GB are
no longer available . Those with higher capacity nowadays cost very
little.

If you are a home brewer (radio wise) I suggest you salvage the stepper
motors to enable for example remote operation of roller coasters and
variable capacitors in antenna matching units.
The (shiny) discs can be used as king size washers or to construct a nice
dummy load , by first drilling 0.5 millimetre holes in both disks and
subsequently sandwiching multiple resistors in between the 2 ,followed by
soldering and clipping wire ends.
Use metal oxyde resistors (2 Watts if available) 20 pcs 1000 Ohms resistor
give you a 50 Ohms dummy load. Package can be fitted in a round tin ,which
(if necessary) can be filled with oil (motor oil is OK) to increase the
dummy load's power rating.

Also in 2005 they say the future is bright ; 2 of its challenges remaining
to be RENEWABLE ENERGY and LINUX.
