Dearest Andy,

When someone states something in error the correction is in order. Your
one word response "wrong" is less than helpful. Hopefully anyone misled
by the headlamp ballast notion read my bull explaining that in essense a
"lamp ballast" current limiter limits current according to it's own
current rating at full brilliance. The resistance of metal, in this case
tungsten or if you prefer wolfram varies greatly, rises sharply with
temperature. At very low current it's near zero which makes a lamp useful
as a limiter, the more the current the higher the resistance until it
takes on the characteristics of a fuse.

BTW, an automotive headlamp usually draws about 10A which is a bit
excessive for charging small batteries requiring about half an amp
tapering to a few milliamps for continuous float charging. There are all
kinds of chargers for all kinds of batteries depending on the type of
service so these generalizations I see on packet are useless and some
harmful. Best choose the right battery for the job and charge according
to manufacturer's instructions. Yes, they did your homework for you
during R&D long before the product line went into production.
