Hi Jochen and readers,
I see you have found no practical way of filtering (except maybe one) the
radiation from the TV receiver. You made no mention of a high pass filter
in the transmission line, could be it's radiating. Try disconnecting it
and see if the RFI disappears, if so it needs filtering/decoupling. Oh,
check with your neighbor to see his set is off too. (;->)
If all else fails you may try the court of last resort, the law. The FCC
part 15 R&Rs stipulate maximum radiation limits from things that aren't
supposed to radiate, TVs, computers, etc. Part 15 devices "must not
interfere with licensed services and must accept all interference to
them" so if you have a similar law you can take action against Panasonic
through your licencing agency.
Now don't worry about the neighbor, he just may get a new, properly
operating TV set out of the deal, no action will be taken against him if
my guess is correct, I'm not a communications lawyer. Since the TV wiring
itself appears to be at fault the set may be considered to be operating
improperly and contrary to law so being Panasonic's fault they may be
held liable.
Yes, I know the wheels of justice turn slowly and the battle is only
between the government and Panasonic (you and the neighbor are considered
witnesses/complainants only) but sooner or later the problem should be
corrected. Meanwhile you and the neighbor will have to work out a
compromise, I hope he's cooperative because some will tell you to stuff
it up your nose. I'm just glad the Superbowl (football's biggest game)
doesn't fall on the same day as the CQWW conterst. (;->)
Oh, one last thought. Have you and your neighbor considered a refund or
exchange with the shop where the sets were bought? I would imagine they
would do something about it since the sets are not working properly even
if they outwardly appear to be. We have "fit for merchantability" laws
that protect the consumer from faulty products, you may try that
approach. It may see faster results since the sets are for all intents
and purposes unusable due to the interference they generate.
