Rebuild your kernel with sound modem support. It works well.
Read the AX25-HOWTO and HAM-HOWTO files.

Newer config scripts have a blanket Ham Radio Support option
that suppresses all ham radio-related configuration items.
You must say Yes to get them.

Yea! but is their an APRS program to run APRS in Linux *and* via
soundcard? Does Xaster or whatever do it?

What are the pros and cons compared to WinAPRS?

Yes I do it! FlexNet works solid but needs setting up in DOS first. I
can't find an APRS program (yet) for it though.

AGW works for some and we're expecting a new version 2000.72 any
miniute. It is easy and works in Windose and prefers 98.

Don't forget I'm talking SOUNDCARD Flex, AGW and Linux. They all can be
used with a TNC (normaly) and require less processor requirements and
may run with more software. But the software is coming along nicely for
soundcard packet. The next version of AGW promises two ports from the L
and R soundcard channels!

Translation: Your soundcard is now capable of being two 9600/1200 TNC's
(That is, two port). More baud rate choices too. Do you have an
old "true FM" rig that's easy to tap into for 9600?

Can you say free (what you have) wireless 9600 baud network? Now 9600
don't sound so bad do it? TCP/IP anyone? Stick that in your
cellular "wirless-web". :) This Inovation can play a big part in
keeping our bands!

Hams do it mobile. :)

That's cool.

Even with a true FM rig, your TxDelay will be so high that you will not
be very happy with your results. Think about getting a TEKK data
radio. They are cheap, and they work.

Thank you for the help. It was nice of you.

What trans delay do I need? About what speed in ms, I mean? It seems
most fairly new rigs are quick. Let me find a spec. Didn't find it but
I think it's about 200ms.

Thanks

Try here for some programs. Haven't tried the packet stuff, but have
used some psk31 and rtty ones.

Very good collection of sound card softwear.
