Is there maybe a non-low-budget way of doing it? How about repeaters? How
many would I need?

Depends on the geography ... hills in the way?
If there is a clear line of sight path available, then it can be done in one
hop, with some expensive gear, perhaps $1000 per end.
I suspect Gary will post details. This was discussed at length a few
months back.

Well now, if you want "non-low-budget" that's a different story.
Here is a web site that may be of interest.
Mobile Telesystems, Inc. at http://www.mti-usa.com/
They have systems that will handle up to 256 kpbs but the one
that might be of interest to you would be the TT-3080A, in the
"Products" section.

That's just the thing I'm trying to avoid. The local telco has a monopoly
and makes everything extremely expensive. I'd also like to get a 24/7
connection instead of a dial-up like ISDN. Staying connected with ISDN 24/7
over such a distance would be more expensive than getting a leased line.
Thanks
