Subject: testing soundmodem in linux

I'm at the stage of having a kernel (2.2.16) with soundmodem support
compiled into it booting without any error messages. I installed the
ax25-utils and I can bring up the soundmodem using ifconfig. When I
run smdiag I can actually see whatever I input on the mic-in line of my
soundcard (ESS Audiodrive), so it seems like it's working. How can I
test if the modem is working correctly, first the transmitting and then
the receiving? I have an oscilloscope and signal generator I can use
if necessary. Can I just connect the earphone output to the
oscilloscope, run a terminal program that outputs to the ax25 port (how
do I do that?) and see if it does something on the scope? Can I then
onnect the output to the input directly and see if I receive what I
send?
Please email me derictly if possible, I will then try and put something
usefull in the way of a tutorial together to maybe add to the
AX25-howto.
Thanks

The simplest is to just connect it to the transceiver and connect someone.
When it doesn't work, you can always try to find out where it is failing.
