what the hams running Linux are doing. It's just not very hard.

Anyone using the 870 via the ACC2 din plug connection? I could not get xmit
audio through the connector.

Anyone upgraded lately and have an extra KPC3 6.0 firmware chip laying
around?
I'm in the market for a couple of them, but one will do.

You could use this argument for just about anything. Of course it is
possible to build anything. Sometimes it is even cheaper. Capitalism
demands that we buy it, rather than build it.

What most Monarchists don't understand about Americans, is they
*like* to spend money. Money to most Americans is like a full bladder.
That's why everything is big (BIG!). Our parking lots at Wal-Mart are
larger than most cities of the World.
We drive cars (we used to call them trucks) that are big (BIG!) and
our horns make real big (BIG!) sounds (none of that wimpy Queen
sound from the British colonies).
The quickest way to an Americans wallet, is to make it BIG! Even
our toothpaste box is big (BIG!) even though the tube of paste only
takes an eighth of the boxes internal volume.
P.S. $80 is chump change. We spend that much on gas and burgers.

I have built circuits in the past because I enjoy doing it or can not
find a comercial product that will do what I want,or I don't have the
money. I put together a 'glass' rtty station many years ago out of some
junk computer boards because I could not afford to buy the stuff already
made. This was back before the Modle 3 came out from RAdio Shack. Had
about $ 50 in a system, but took about a year to build it and write the
program for it. But that $ 15 cost you have in your interface, look at
all the other things you have to have. I am sure you put it in a box
and had to drill some holes. Count all the drill, bits, soldering
equipment and other tools you used and see how much it costs. Sort of
like the fisherman that save money by fishing. They don't count the
cost of the boats, hotel rooms and such.
"free fish" only $ 100 per pound..hihi..
Just as most hobies require it, ham radio really requires the hams to
have a swr meter and soldering equipment to put connectoors on, but I
doubt that most have them, especially the ones that just operate on the
FM modes on the vhf bands. Probably quiet a few that operate the low
bands don't have a soldering gun so they can hook up their coax or mic
connectors.

Hi Ralph,
You obviously do not know what is involved to make an interface. For most
Hams just using VOX and two cables with a audio isolation transformers will
work just fine!
For this interface, all you do is cut each cable and splice in the audio
isolatrion transformer. You can even use electrical twist clamps. You DO
NOT EVEN NEED TO SOLDER! Of course, it is preferable if you used a
soldering iron. (Soldering irons are very inexpensive. -- Typically $10 US
for one that will do the job).
Alternatively, you can build an interface on a proptotype circuit board
where you just push the wires into the board. No soldering.
Even if you bought a new soldering iron or used a protptype board, the cost
of building your own interface is LESS than a THIRD of the cost of a
RIGBLASTER.
In my view, RIGBLASTER is very expensive considering the small number of
electrical components involved.
Considering the apparent popularity of RIGBLASTER, I do not think it won't
be long before someone else, like MFJ, makes a similar interface at a
fraction of the price. If you can't build one, personally I would wait for
some REAL competition to appear in the market place.
