I can tell you were never in the Boy Scouts! You should have taken the
wire with you just in case you needed to make a radio :-)

Well darn!
I *was* in the boy scouts (that's where I made the door-bell-transmitter),
and of *course* always carried several spools of enamel copper wire
of different gauges just in case it might be needed! Guess I just forgot
about that in the heat of the argument :-)

I thought so too, Rich, but I was corrected. The later spark gap transmitters
used a sustained arc and were perfectly capable of CW.

Careful! You'll sink with the cell phone :-)

Yes, I'm sure that must be correct...

Yes, write them. They'll be sure to consider it, I'm really sure...
Generally speaking, the aircrew ends up in a chute with their
seat-kit dangling below their butt, with a tug on the line the
raft inflates and the survival kit hangs down below that. As soon
as you hit the water the wind starts dragging you along at about
30 knots and your survival kit explodes into the first wave, with
little things tied on with small parachute cord. After the first bounce,
everything weighing over 1 pound is lost. That leaves you with a solar
still, a mirror, and a strobe light :-) After sucking in a gallon of sea
water you vomit everything from the colon up, and then have the dry
heaves for an hour.
OK, OK, I'm exaggerating...
Anyway, you don't feel like breaking out a straight or iambic key
and sending out ditty-bop stuff...
