So I spend very little of my time on the digital modes anymore, since
there is no point in that. More time for other modes ...

But it is sure fun to troll for them here ... they are always ready to
denigrate
what has been accomplished using ham radio digital modes.

Subject: Help - Naval Academy ham radio club in danger!

Help!

I am looking for other Naval Academy graduates or US Naval personnel who can
assist me in saving the amateur radio club at USNA.

I have been the officer rep for the past 2.5 years, but a decision was just
made in the past 48 hours (over the summer while the mids are conveniently out
at summer training or on leave) without notice or discussion, to disestablish
the station W3ADO (also Navy MARS station NNN0NNN). Perceived lack of
participation, lack of knowledge of our various missions and accomplishments
("oh, ham radio is dead..."), and funding probably played a role.

Mailing address for support letters:
Captain Sam Locklear, USN
Commandant of Midshipmen

cc me at:
Ryan "Skip" Johnson

if you can

Or if you can't write a letter, please email me something and I will forward
it
to the Deputy Commandant by email.

Thank you ! I only hope its not too late -- I have to run down there and see
if they've thrown out the gear already...

It's probably best to make a chart that shows the number of
messages handled, by the number of radio operators using the
facility. The number of hours the equipment had an operator
present, by month.

The way these things usually work, is that someone really
wants the room you're in. Look at the adjoining rooms and see
if they are so big with activity that they want to expand into
your room. Maybe the solution is to find another room.

This is a test to see how far you can bend over backwards.

PTT is more reliable than VOX on many rigs. VOX also opens up the
potential for windows sounds to get transmitted. PTT via the serial
port does work. If you're using the diode method to key from both the
RTS and DTR signals, try connecting only the line you actually use
with your software.

One way to test your PTT circuit is with a 9-volt transistor radio
battery. Disconnect the computer and connect the battery between the
common and signal lines goint to the PTT circuit. One polarity should
key the rig and the other should not.

Of course. Just make sure you turn off all the extra garbage
some OSs insist on adding to the sound card output.

Vox is what I use when using the sound card for psk31 or rtty. Seems to
work fine on an icom 706 and a Yaesu 757.

Has anyone tried voice recognition software with PSK?
Sounds like an interesting idea.... I would be interested in any
experiences anyone has had.
I plan on adding recognition to my computer and this idea came up!!
