Hi Bill,

I have the Garmin e-trex which seems to be a more compact, less featured
version of the e-map & it does support NMEA output at 4800 baud. I downloaded
the demo version of NovaGPS from the NLSA site & had the e-trex hooked in to
my
laptop. It worked well. My only problem now is my laptop only has one serial
port as does my portable TNC. Heck, I'll rig something up. If the e-map is
anything like the e-trex, it is a nice little unit. Good luck & 73's.

Is anyone tracking there location on www.findu.com ?

I haven't used packet in about 5 years. I recently discovered this site and
thought it would be fun to play with.

I own a couple of KPC3's and radio's and such. I was wondering if anyone
can give me the low down on how to setup for use at this site.

Also, is there a way to connect the GPS to the KPC3 to send the aprs info
w/o a computer?

Thanks

-Tim

This site shows station info which has been passed on to the aprs
network. If you are running an APRS station and there is an internet
gateway (Igate) in your area which can receive your packets, they will
get to that site.

Yes, but you may need a firmware upgrade. Check the manual. The
aprssig archives at www.tapr.org should have some information which you
will find helpful.

Subject: New Mode - tentative spec

Folks,

Please read and comment, preferably via HFSIG@TAPR.ORG, so we all get to see
your comments. This should be a very exciting new Amateur rag-chew mode.

Volunteers to do the necessary research, coding and testing should also put
their hands up in the same way (please).

73,

Murray ZL1BPU
===========================================================

PICCOLO 2000 TENTATIVE SPECIFICATION
====================================

An 8FSK mode for HF DX nets and rag-chewing. A platform on which to test
various associated data code and FEC techniques. Very low speed options
for weak signal LF and VHF use.

A. General Description
======================

An easy to use Amateur chat mode (suitable for nets, but not intended
for contesting), with comfortable typing speed and modest latency
(turn around time). Performance as good or better than existing
techniques for long-haul DX, such as long path 20 metres. Robust in
fading conditions and in moderate QRM such as is prevalent in Europe.
A very low speed option would provide good performance for LF or VHF
weak signal use where superior signal path stability can be assured.

It is believed that an M-ary FSK system can fulfill these requirements.

B. Transmission Technique
=========================

Transmission to be based on 8FSK (8 tone sequential FSK), with continuous
phase (CPSK) tones shaped for reasonable bandwidth and if necessary to
allow data clock recovery. Transmission bandwidth to be preferably less
than 300 Hz when properly adjusted. Transmitter linearity requirements
