It has all it needs: a sound chip on the motherboard, ample
compute power, and the ability to run appropriate software.
Useful interfaces (parallel, USB, and the dmesg output says
that Linux thinks it has two serial ports).

Linux is handy in this respect: native AX.25, lots of useful
drivers (including the soundcard), and the price is right.

With AX.25 in software you don't need a TNC. Plug the radio into
the sound card, or plug a modern modem into the parallel port
(or the USB port if you want to get fancy) and let the software
do the rest. With a decent processor (which this unit has) you
won't notice 9600 baud packet, even if you do it with the sound
card.

800x600 isn't that bad - I'm using it right now because my cheap
used monitor (a nice one when it was new; junk now) won't go any
higher.

I want one.

Supermorse is supposed to be able to do such.
