If you won't post the schematic some specs would be nice. Input impedance,
isolation methods and ratings, distortion, level control, output/short circuit
protection etc.

FYI, you have picked a hopelessly dead market. While there are a few
exceptions
MOST packet types would never spend $80 to connect their $1200 computer to
their
$1300 radio. 

I dunno about the $5 model but a kit form would be nice.

Subject: Problem with D700A - am I missing something?

I made my cable by removing the male end of a
serial cable and soldering on another female db-9.
I wired it straigh thru pin 1 to pin 1 and so
forth.
To make the Kenwood software work, I had to turn
the radio on after the computer was in the
Kenwood control program.  Then the computer
seemed to "find" the radio.
