Subject: beyond 9600 bps?

Hellp
I'm a newbie in the digital ham world but I was wondering if it was
possible to use 14400 bps modulation on a low end RTX ?
the audio bandwith is quite narrow but for instance
I had no major problems with decoding packet @ 9600 bps FSK
with my soundcard in FM mode (my TRX is a HR2510).

But today's CPUs are so powerful that i thought that
it was possible designing some more complex modulation mode
than AFSK that is 25 years old... (maybe more ?) QRM resistant
and that would be suitable for low end RTX... and fast...14.4

PS: The SC chipsets now sample up to 48000... but maybe it's not
sufficent for modes > 9600 ?
So, do you know some SC brands that sample at an higher rate?

Subject: CW Software?

Hello Folks:

I have been lucky enough to have the loan of a HAL DXp-38 and have been
using various modes with good results on the TS-870.

That has kindled my interest in getting my code back under control, but I
have been a way for a long time and am worse than rusty!

I would like to play around with CW via the sound card so I can at least
watch some QSO's, and listen at the same time to get myself comfortable
again.....sort of like having my Elmer riding shotgun for me when I made my
earliest QSO's in the old days.

Can you recommend any free or inexpensive CW software that works well in
your experience?

Regards to all,
Lee Smith

I want to know if soft Flex 95 can run under Windows98 with the driver sound
blaster SMSBC.EXE.

I would hope so, yes... at 9600, it would perform terribly on satellite!

(satellites send a continuous 9600 bps HDLC stream. at 9600 baud ASYNC,
you would lose 20% of the data, especially when the buffer handling is
poor and it cannot buffer a few KB to send during short fading periods)

Yes, we found the menu change about 4:30 this morning (software dev. is
great fun) and will now proceed with more testing after locating a null
modem adapter (RS is out of stock, but found a long one at a local PC
store). Hadn't looked at the larger manual, just the specialized comm. one;
and Chris pointed out the menu change this morning also. Thanks again. What
computer are you using with the D700?

I would RTFM if there were more hours in a day!! Besides, after all of the
'cup holder type support questions' we field; I suppose we're allowed one
too.
