The proper way (to solve the problem mentioned in the original message)
would have been for the TNC to do the handshake procedure (send the XOFF
or lower the handshake line) a few (16-32) characters BEFORE the buffer
actually is full. This allows the sending system to stop in time to
prevent the buffer from overflowing, especially when a hardware FIFO is
also present.
Many TNC-like devices have broken handshaking routines and drop characters
or even crash when you stress the handshaking.

I would like to second Hank's question. Speaking as a user who has never had
a
problem the KAM+.

In trying to answer that question, I found myself in a quandary... There are
so many better brands to recommend, with "the best" being a matter of
personal taste or particular need.
As for those of you who are proud that your Kantronics equipment "works",
I'll mention the case of a neighbor whose Yugo automobile "works"... It gets
her to town every day. That does not make it a superior design.

Any modem works fine for 1.2 kbps packet. There is no "better."
It's all obsolete stuff from the 80's.
If you're "serious about Packet Radio" I would recommend using
Linux and the soundcard modems, with the 4.8 kbps version
working very well into regular audio based radios. There's also
a ROSE network mode that works very well for links.

Subject: Kenwood TM D700 on the PACSATS?
Hi All,
Kenwood says that the new TM D-700 will work on the 9600 baud pacsats, but I
have yet to hear if anyone has actually reported success. Has anyone done it
yet?
Does the radio work with WiSP? The manual lists a KISS mode command so it
should work, but has anyone tried it?
Also important -- can the VFO's be controlled via the serial port for full
duplex doppler tracking of the pacsats? If so, where are the commands for
this? I looked through the manuals briefly and could see lots of the normal
TNC commands, but nothing for VFO control...
I know that Kenwood has a program in beta test on their Web site for
programming memories on the D-700, but am not sure if that would be useful
for doppler tracking... Any experiences yet???
