Subject: KAM/Hostmaster/Pactor Mode

Carver,

If I remmber right, James Orleff who wrote the code, made some changes to it
with version 7.0 firmware (which was a major upgrade for Kantronics for host
mode coders) and they released 2.3.

I can tell you for a fact that Hostmaster 2.3 works with the KAM-E and
Kamplus with the 8.x firmware.

Looks like you have two options, upgrade to 2.3 or move to other software.
As you may know, for DOS their is KA-Gold; for Windows 3.1 XPwin and KA-Win
and for Windows 95/98/NT/2000 Pacterm '98.

I think you need a packet TNC for UI-View. The Hamcomm modem doesn't support
packet (AX.25) as far as I know.

You may also be able to use UI view with some of the lower cost packet
modems such as YAM and Baycom but I really don't know!

Subject: WinAPRS vs UI View??

UI View is pretty nice, it is modern looking, compared to WinAPRS
which keeps the Windows 3.1 interface alive. WinAPRS needs to
get up to the Win95 or Win2000 interface. UIView is the program
that replaces it otherwise.

UI View looks great, as you display data on GIF images that are
easily made from Street Atlas, or MS Streets 98 (just use paste to
the clipboard and Paint Shop Pro, and save as a GIF after writing
down the top left and bottom right coordinates, and saving them in
a file.

Fantastic! Send the man money, tell him to press on! He's doing it
the right way. Now if he would just implement the sound card :-)

The only think I missed right off was a way to zoom in. As it is you
have to make a smaller map, and then change to it. I spent all
morning making street atlas maps from high to low resolution of
Oklahoma.

I like the KISS interface. Works well with an old ancient KAM+...

My only request is, that he create a Server in it, so clients can
display
the data.
