elsewhere.

My personal preference is for the final two letters to be in lower case
as I find it makes the code more readable, but others find the opposite.

I have never heard of the use of "zz" in the way described, but not
being an habitual contester I am perhaps not well qualified to comment!

If that fails, EMail me. I'm sure I have most of the Basic source
from GM4ANB as published in RadComm quite a few years ago.

It's only Basic, but it may help.

It's actually "World Geodetic System (1984)", but I guess you
already knew that :-)

I've ordered the new ARRL HF Digital Handbook. Don't know yet how
good it is. Here's a quote from the ARRL sales blurb: "Chapters
cover building an HF digital station, digital modes such as PSK31,
PACTOR I & II, Clover, G-TOR, Hellschreiber, HF/internet connection,
and digital contesting." Order #7652 for $15.

teh HF digital modes? Like say you wanted to develop software for
them....

It's been mentioned in here before, but well worth repeating...

Pactor and Pactor II require a license for use...and Pactor II requires
hardware also from SCS http://www.scs-ptc.com. They also provide the docs.

Clover requires a license from Hal Communications http://www.halcomm.com,
they also provide the documentation

GTOR is described in the book, G-TOR, the new mode, by Phil Anderson. It
requires a license from Kantronics.

The other HF modes.. CW, RTTY, ASCII and AMTOR do not require a license.

Is there a description for these protocols that has been obtained
independently from these hardware vendors e.g. by reverse engineering
the signal on air ?

While the implementation by the hardware vendor is proprietary and
possibly even patentable, I very much doubt that the actual
transmission protocol i.e. the algorithm is patentable at least in
most countries.

However, the US patent office has a tradition of giving patents to
even perpetual motion machines, so I would not be too surprised, if a
patent had been granted for these protocols, but in that case, it is a
public document and the protocol can be studied from that document.
