What I am really wanting to do is develop, for fun, freeware control
software for Linux.

Jeff,

Timewave has complete support for the PK-232 including DSP, Pactor/GPS/Gateway
and low power upgrade kits, cable assemblies and cable kits, manuals, power
supplies, complete brand new PK-232/DSP units, Y2K compliant software, and
telephone/fax/email tech support. See our web site (www.timewave.com) for more
information on all these items.

To upgrade your PK-232 to operate Pactor requires an MBX upgrade kit that
includes a MBX daughter board, new firmware and a new manual. Cost is $100.00.
The DSP upgrade kit also includes these items as well as a DSP daughter board
for $150.00.

The absolutely cheapest way to get a PK-232 that runs Pactor is to find a used
PK-232MBX with ver 7.0 or later firmware at a hamfest at a low price. Usually
they go for about $125.00 +/- $25.00 on the usenets, but you can sometimes
find a better deal at a hamfest. All rights to the firmware are owned by
Timewave so the firmware cannot be legally copied.

You will need to add the daughterboard to the PK232 to add
the MBX option, this will add Pactor and the latest firmware
features at that point. You wil need to contact Timewave
at www.timewave.com for pricing and ordering information.
Pactor is NOT possilble on NON-MBX PK232's without
 the daughterboard.

RDCP/Mac is the only host mode program I know that is available for the
Kantronics and MacIntosh. it's at
http://www.winternet.com/~nedbalek/software.html

HostMaster Mac used to be sold by Kantronics, but Kevin Krueger withdrew it
from the market a couple years back. I've been trying to find him to ask if
he'd have an interest in distributing it throught us as well as MacRatt, but
no luck in finding him so far.
