I do hope that you are successful in obtaining a floppy drive, but if you
aren't and there appears to be no other way of getting data in and out of the
laptop, don't give up, because there is software around that enables you to use
either the serial or parallel ports and suitable cables to transfer files to
and from another computer.
I use Fastlynx (also known as FX) and a simple two-conductor-and-earth null
modem RS-232 cable between a pair of MS-DOS machines very successfully. The
docs say that it will work with Windows 3.0 and 3.1 so I'm not sure what it
would be like on more modern operating systems. Of particular interest in
your situation is the fact that you don't need to have a copy of it on your
laptop because it is capable of installing itself provided you type one or two
DOS commands so that the laptop is reading the COM port instead of the
keyboard. Quite cunning.
Perhaps there are other programmes out there that do a similar thing?
