Philips published a book "Power Semiconductors Applications Handbook 1995"
Charpter 1 and 2 is the most important. Can bee downloaded at:

At page 122 is shown the most common type used in computer PSUs,
Half Bridge or Singel ended Pushpull.
A "real" 250 watt running with a load of 25 Amp. it is 345 Watts with a temperature
at the cooling fin around 45 Centigrade, is posible.
Ther is many lowcost PSUs with big power numbers and small retifiers etc.
