Hi Pete and all,
"Leakage radiation at dangerous levels" is debatable, first off they
don't leak unless there's a problem with the battery. As far as RF
exposure is concerned there is no proof one way or another it is
dangerous but still I'm not happy with the idea of microwaves to the
brain.
That notion of causing problems at the fuel pump is a big load of hooey,
first of all where's the spark or any ignition source? There have been
explosions and fire at the pump caused by STATIC DISCHARGE however, slide
across a vinyl seat cover getting out and touch metal and you'll find out
real quick where that spark came from. In some rare instances the vehicle
may become charged in a dry, dusty environment and when the grounded
nozzle goes in... BOOM! The Armed Forces in Desert Storm found out
the hard way what it can do to radio and other sensitive equipment,
watching helicoper rotors through night vision it looks like a fireworks
display.
Perhaps the most common myth is thinking the phone is off when it's off,
not unless you remove the battery. It's constantly polled by the network
and responding like a server to a ping telling it it's there and if it
has GPS where it is too. That's how bad guys get caught, if the GPS
doesn't rat them out the tower does. Hello tower, I'm here, now come and
get me! I kid thee not, I've heard it coming from the dispatcher giving
particulars to the patrol officers.
Put a Blackberry in your ear, smile and show your Blue Tooth, crazy
people talk to imaginary friends and we just want to be sure before we
take you away laughing hysterically.
