In the UK Alvin G6DTW stated a thread about navigating with a watch. Here is
instructions I gjve a Guide Camp teams to find out where they were using a
MW radio & a map with some stations on it & NOTHING ELSE.
SPY CHALLENGE
SCENARIO
You were captures & have just escaped from a torture camp in an unknown
location (country), your are now deep in a wilds & you have no idea
where you are or which direction to head for a friendly country.
You when U escaped you picked up..
Old maps (including MW Transmitter masts)
A working Medium Wave (MW) radio.
Tracing paper & pencil.
CHALLENGE
The challenge is to find out where you are using just radio signals.
METHOD
1/ Tune radio into station A. Then turn the radio around to find the
worst signal. Using one edge of the radio, draw a line on your
paper (Mark it Line A). Do not move the paper now! \
2/ Tune radio into station B. Turn radio around to find the worst
signal. With the same edge of the radio, mark a new line crossing
the 1st line on your paper (mark it Line B). X
3/ Tune radio into station C. Turn radio around to find the worst
signal. Mark another new line crossing through the first 2 lines
(Mark it Line C). -X-
4/ On the map find the Transmitter Mast sites for Stations A, B & C.
A
C
B
5/ Place the paper on the map & move it around until all 3 lines go
over their respective Transmitter Masts.
A
-X- C
B
You are located where all the lines cross on the map.
In practice a spy might use long wave stations from different
countries as their signals go much further to determine which
country he is in.
