I did some more tests to see what file sizes I ended up with. The original
document is a TNC circuit on an A4 page. I scanned at 360 DPI, and at
75 DPI.

Both were saved as bmp files and converted to jpg and tif with Irfanview.

360 DPI
bmp - 1.55MB
jpg - 3.8MB (file saved with Irfanview slider at 100 percent)
tif - 1.55MB

75 DPI
bmp - 67kb
jpg - 240kb (100 percent)
tif - 67kb

The original image was a scanned image so some quality degradation was
pre-existing.

With a 360 DPI scan, IC numbers could still be read, at 75 DPI those
numbers were a blur.

75 DPI seems fine for web based images of photos but is inadequate from
circuit diagrams.

Keep in mind the image was a full A4 sheet so a considerable reduction in
file size will be achieved with a much smaller sheet size.

Cheers ... Ray vk2tv
