I've spent the past few days mirroring VK3KAY's ftp server.
Doug opened his ftp server up for free access a few days back. But either
it's been hammered into the ground by people downloading files or the net
connection/machine is not upto the job as access from the UK is ropey.
Access from the USA is much better and I've actually been able to fetch
more than 5 files without the Doug's server giving up and timing out. I've
mirrored the Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom directories. I think the Alinco
directory is complete too. As an when Doug's server plays nicely I'll
mirror the rest. There's more available now but it's not guaranteed to be
complete.
You can access the mirror at http://www.moosedata.com/Mods/ you can then
browse from there on. I've made the files available via http: (ie use a web
browser) because from comments on here, not everyone knows how to do ftp:
You can thank Doug for collecting the files together and making them
available. I'm not trying to upstage him in any way, I'm simply offering a
higher bandwidth server to host the files free for anyone who wants to
download them.
I'll zip all the catagories together later so you can download all Yaesu
files in one big zip and likewise for Icom, Alinco etc.
Doug's ftp server can be found at:
ftp://vk3kay.2waky.com
username: amateur
password: radio2006.
The high bandwidth http: mirror is at:
http://www.moosedata.com/Mods/
(The download speed depends on the hosting datacentre's load, the server
load but it should easily be able to saturate a 1mbps broadband line. I've
just done a few checks and it's pushing a respectable 145kbytes/sec at me,
it's in California and I'm near Edinburgh. Your mileage might vary!)
Also assorted radio manuals for Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood radios are at:
http://www.moosedata.com/Manuals/
Who wants to pay money when you can get the files for free!
