Right then here's a trick I just discovered.
I've been using my Hamcom type interface for data decoding.
Now the problem is that if I connect a cable from the speaker socket of
my IC706 to the input of the Hamcom interface all I end up doing is
directly injecting noise from the PC into it.
Anyway I was pottering about in the shack and I came across an old
telephone pick up coil. This is a small device with a suction pad that
your suppose to moisten and stick to a telephone for recording purposes.
The trick is to place the coil near the speaker. In my case I just
stuck it on to the top of my IC706 where the in built speaker is on top
(you may need to stand something on top of the coil to keep it in place)
and there's enough field generated by the speaker coil to be picked up
and drive the Hamcom interface and so theres no longer any direct
connection for PC noise to enter - yippeeee!
For UK readers I see that Maplin sell the same pick up coil for œ3.99
on page 804.
Maybe this is of use to some of you battling against PC noise.
I no longer suffer any injected noise now.
