No, I am not wanting to enter G<-->VK tests.  However a number of amateurs in
Melbourne Sydney and I believe Brisbane have been operating in this mode as a
matter of course for a number of years.
They run skeds every Saturday morning on SSB on two metres.
They operate with airline timetable in hand.
Station in between such as Canberra also take part.

I do not know what their record  distance is but Sydney to Melbourne is about
600 Miles so I think the OE station would be in with a shot.
