Hi Pete and all,
My Saturday morning TV is showing again, that was Buckwheat from The
Little Rascals. In the New York area there was this ritual, when kids got
up on Saturday they were glued to the TV even eating breakfast there,
then around noon or a little after depending on what was on they got
chased out so mum could get things done without them underfoot. Depending
on what was showing in the theatre downtown we'd either head off that way
or play war, cowboys and indians or some other thing with guns in a
nearby vacant lot. Did the cops care that my six shooter was an exact
replica of the famous Colt Peacemaker loaded with .44 hollow points? NAH!
It was one of those realisic cap pistols the caps went in the bullets and
smoke came out the barrel.
Nope, trains came later when the kid across the street and I discovered
the Lionel model locomotive he had was the baby brother to the
Pennsylvania GG-1s running on the main line a few blocks away.
I don't know how many John Bull replicas there are floating around but
the one I saw is at the B&O RR Museum in Baltimore. It's in the
roundhouse with a number of smallish engines, sitting against the wall
behind one you can see how tiny it is, barely large enough for the two
operators to stand on. Outside in the yard is a Union Pacific "Big Boy"
that being the largest steamer ever built, if a Scout troop took shelter
in the firebox they'd get lost in there!
Sir Richard Branson sounds about right, it's SO nice to be SO rich you
can do whatever you want no questions asked... even launch yourself into
space just to say you've been there.
Weirdo laws we gottem! I was being more than sarcastic since not only
Forida makes the money grab but they're famous for it. Knowing there's
more pirate treasure off the coast than Ferdinand ever had in Spanish
vaults they have the raw nerve to claim ownership... so now who are the
pirates? Heh, I get WEIRDO e-mail every day and will deal with Glen when
I'm done here. You'd think me used to his Weird Mullins Esq. by now?
Guess again, his mullins get weirder every day! (;->)
