PACKET GENEALOGY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Sending a Genealogical query over packet is easy!

A Tiny Tafel is a format used on land-line bbs to exchange
genealogical data. Below is a typical Tiny Tafel. I have
numbered each line for ease of explanation. The numbers at
the right do not appear on a real
Tiny Tafel.

EXAMPLE:
1> Christopher Donald Rumbaugh
2> rumcd@open.org
2> http://www.open.org/rumcd
3> KD6FIB@KC7KFE.#SALEM.OR.USA.NOAM
4> 1701 1809 ASUNMAA\Alavus,Finland/Alavus,Finland
4> 1840 1840 ATCHINSON\Pennsylvania/Pennsylvania
4> 1764 1764 ARMSTRONG\Ireland/Pennsylvania
4> 1698 1913 BERKEY\Switzerland/Somerset Co., Pennsylvania
4> 1812 1840 BORRELL\Bern, Switzerland/Switzerland Co. IN

EXPLANATION:
 1. Your name
 2. One or several ways of contacting you. You can put your
street address, phone number, e-mail or home page.
Place each unique item on a different line.
 3. Your packet address
 4. This line contains your pertainent Family History info:

  * "1698 1913 BERKEY\Switzerland/Somerset Co., Pennsylvania"
        ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
        A B C D E

 * #4 EXPLANATION:
        A. Earliest date you have for this surname.
        B. Latest date you have for this surname.
        C. Surname (Best as all caps).
        D. Earliest locality you have for this surname.
        E. Latest locality you have for this surname.

When you format your surnames with the above information, send
a bulletin to FAMILY@WW on your bbs. Title the message something
like "(your call): Tiny Tafel" or just "Tiny Tafel".

Feel free to send other questions or queries to FAMILY@WW as well.
If we can get some participation, this could well turn out to
be an excellent resource and adjunct to our already enjoyable
radio hobby.

I'm always open to comments and questions, but I would
appreciate more messages sent to the Ham/Genealogist
community at large using FAMILY@WW so others can learn
from all our questions, problems and successes!

Happy New Year!
