Esperanto, how it works
For those, who want to listen Esperanto, some clues to
this language.
All languages have structures to express certain things:
aaa grammar, bbb structural forming of words from others.
e.g. in English, the plural is formed by adding an s
to the word, thing, things paper papers idea ideas
the past is expressed by adding ed to the verb
call called fail failed mail mailed
from one root can be derivated several other words
open to open opener openness opening
In natural languages however, these structures are seldom pure.
Exceptions to the rules are often in the majority:
child children man men pass passes
go went seek sought think thought ring rang ...
Many words get double meanings: mails can be a verb or a noun,
In Esperanto each structure is as much as possible regular.
- each noun ends on o in plural it end on oj 100%
- each adjective ends on a
- each adverb ends on e
- the verb: present tense as
past is
future os
imperative u
infinitive i
Some sentences:
Jen vokas DJ4PG. Mi audas vin klare. Your signal is very loud.
Here calls DJ4PG. I hear you clearly. Via signalo estas tre lauta.
Ripetu denove vian nomon bonvolu.
Repeat again your name please.
Mi sendos konfirmkarton al vi.
I will send QSL-card to you.
Mia konfirmkarto estas valida por la Esperanto-diplomo.
My QSL-card is valid for the Esperanto-Diplome.
Esperanto has just 16 rules, which enable all finesses of human speech.
Clearly, if you take a certain amount of time to study a foreign language,
say one year, you are very much better in Esperanto than in any other
foreign language. Comparative tests with school-children have proven,
that the time spent for learning Esperanto gave so much advantage in
understanding of language generally, that these children later learned
their 2nd foreign language much better.
Letīs mention phonetics: in E-o each letter represents one sound,
each sound is written with always the same letter.
Word-forming: special syllables form derivations. (see abv "open"...)
In E-o about 40 syllables with defined meanings form defined words
This saves much time in learning words, or the other way round, you know
many more expressions in less time.
Not just the functionalism of this language is the key of Esperanto, but
even more the idea, that everybody should be able to understand others better.
Just now, when the political blocks have broken, but ethnic, religious,
and many other differences gain big momentum, we feel the need to seek for
better understanding. Radio-amateurs can talk about much more than
the weather.
