Despite the (bad) forecasted wx, I received a (late) phone call
from Marc (ON5RR) that the wind was setting down at his qth and
that he'd give the annual ARRL 23cm EME contest a try...
By 22Z on saturday night, I arrived at his place where he had the
6m dish winched up and had tuned out all final PA-oscillations...
The band was filled with stations and the big guns from the Alps
(OE9, HB9) were moving the (heavily attenuated) S-meter wildly,
indicating good propagation. No doubt, most of the participants
had been improving their station for this event...
The station played very well again; the improved cooling and wiring
around the 2C39 ring-PA stages allowed us to work almost all, heard
stations. (except G3LQR, G4CCH (would-be initial) and some others)
We called CQ on clear frequencies for extended periods and were
rewarded with 4 initials: DF4PV, JA7BMB, OE5EYM and OH2DG.
By the end of the Asian window, (with good JA-activity)
we had worked what could be worked and as often, the waiting period
for the American window proved to be very hard for our non-prepared
bodies...
I returned to the family at 0430Z with just half an hour or so in
the US-window.
Marc continued for some more hours but had to give it up because of
the wind strength building up.
By 10Z, the station was dismantled and the dish safely secured to
receive the forecasted 50km+ winds...
In total, 32 stations were worked (all random) with 16 multipliers.
We had a great time (again) and we hope to work more during the
second leg.
